Definitions

Cookies are small text files that websites visited by users send to their terminals, where they are stored to be re-transmitted to the same sites upon subsequent visits. “Third-party” cookies are set by a website other than the one the user is currently visiting. Types of Cookies

  • Technical Cookies: Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such service” (cf. Art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Code). They are not used for further purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or operator of the website. They can be divided into: Browsing or session cookies: ensure normal navigation and use of the website. Analytics cookies: assimilated to technical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site itself. Functionality cookies: allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria in order to improve the service provided to them.Prior consent from users is not required for the installation of these cookies, while the obligation to provide information pursuant to Art. 13 of the Code remains, which the site operator, if using only such devices, may provide in the manner deemed most appropriate.
  • Profiling Cookies: Profiling cookies are aimed at creating profiles related to the user and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the web. Due to the particular invasiveness that such devices may have within the private sphere of users, European and Italian regulations provide that the user must be adequately informed about their use and express their valid consent. They are referred to in Art. 122 of the Code where it provides that “the storage of information in the terminal equipment of a subscriber or user or access to already stored information are permitted only on condition that the subscriber or user has given their consent after having been informed with the simplified procedures referred to in Article 13, paragraph 3” (Art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Code). “Third-Party” Cookies

By visiting this website, you may receive cookies from sites operated by other organizations (“third parties”). An example is represented by the presence of “social plugins” for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or LinkedIn, or embedded multimedia content display systems such as YouTube or Flickr. These are parts generated directly by the aforementioned sites and integrated into the web page of the host site visited. Duration of Cookies
